CHICKEN ON A CHAIN

Honestly, who comes up with the names for new lures?  At the dealer show this past January, the guys at the Bass Assassin booth proudly showed me their new color. We discussed the choice of color (Any chartreuse tail will work in Louisiana) and it's possibilities for Trout and such. Then they had to mention the name:Chicken on a Chain. Part of the challenge of selling is convincing the customers that this lure is going to catch tons of fish. Yet most customers know that the name, and usually the color, are designed to catch fishermen. But please, if you want to name a lure, use something the fishermen can remember. So far, I have been asked for lures with names such as: Chicken Bucket, Chicken Liver, Chicken Stringer, Chains of Chickens, even Chicken Gizzards. I know what they are looking for so I usually  help them out.

Of course, other brands will have to copy the exciting new colors. This seems to be acceptable, and most companies do not complain. One of my favorites is Bass Assassin,s Electric Chicken. Tsunami has a version named Power Poultry. I have to say, that one is pretty bad. Deadly Dudley has Frog's Breath which is hauntingly similar to Chicken on a Chain. At least the name is original. The plus side to the knock offs is all lures have different action, regardless of the colors. Brand loyalty is a personal choice.

I will agree that this is a lure your are going to want to try out. Anytime a new item appears on the market, we use that as an excuse to go fishing. (We can't sell it unless we know it works! Right?) But our last trip was highly successful and we used Chicken on a Chain, and Dudley's version Frog's Breath. Both worked equally well. We also added the Chicken on a Chain in the curl tail instead of just the sea shad. Like a said, it is a personal choice.

So stop by and pick up a pack (or order online) and see what you think. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Happy Fishing,
